I love to get feedback about my page. Really. I'm just tired of the extra crap that so-called marketers think I want. I really am sick of seeing more ads in my e-mailbox than legitimate messages. I paid for my account. I get to say what I see in it.
Many junk e-mailers would call me anti-business. What they never consider is that this is my account, not theirs. If I declare this account to be non-commercial, then guess what? It's non-commercial. If I want ads dumped in my account, then I will sign up for a mailing list for the ads I want to see.
My inbox is not public property. My e-mail address is not a commodity to be bought and sold on CDs. It is mine, and it is up to me to determine how it is used. Its mere existance is not an open invitation from any and all junk e-mailers, from the pure scammers to big business, to send all sorts of crap to it.
So, what do I call junk? Keep in mind that this list is not definitive, nor do I limit myself to just what I have here.
One type of e-mail I'll mention separately - requests to place a story of mine on a fanfic archive. Please, ask. I'll say yes, but I like being asked. However, don't e-mail me and a whole bunch of other authors saying, "Will you let me post your story on my archive and please no hentai?" It's painfully obvious you haven't read any of the author's stories. Do you really want Sailor Canoehead? As for "no hentai", I'm just tempted to write Sailor Canoehead H just for you.
Long rant, I know, but like I said, I'm tired of junk e-mail. There
are resources to help fight the flow of junk. Junkbusters has
many suggestions and other links to help.
